Air Conditioning Installation in Cheshire, Hooton Bio Powerstation.

Industrial Cooling Equipment have just completed an Air Conditioning Installation in Cheshire.

Hooton Bio Power facility in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire is the UK’s first non-subsidised waste gasification project of this size, and is 100% owned by Aviva Investors. The Hooton Bio Power facility is the fifth energy from waste (EfW) project from renewable energy developer CoGen. The Hooton Bio Power Station will serve as the blueprint when rolling out several future projects by CoGen; they expect to replicate the structure, model and design of the Hooton facility, using the same EPC contractors, feedstock supplier and funder.

The mountains of household and other solid waste that end up in landfills present a growing financial and environmental burden for communities worldwide. In order to address the UK’s waste problems, landfills are taxed, creating a financial environment where a waste-to-energy plant is not dependent on subsidies. This made the Hooton Bio Power project developed by CoGen bankable. This facility, when open, will divert approximately 240.000 tonnes of waste from local landfills and use it to produce 200 GWh per year – enough electricity to power 50.000 homes. The waste will return to the households as power less than 36 hours after waste pick-up.

The project consisted of the installation of 26 single split Daikin air conditioning systems comprising a mixture of wall mounted units, cassettes and Ultra High Static Ducted Units. Most areas were controlled with a Group Control Adapter as the design dictated with duty and standby systems. Within some high intensity areas requiring 150kW of cooling this project was incredibly challenging but also extremely rewarding when all aspects of the design, construction and installation were completed.

The project was completed in phases and spanned over a period of 12 months throughout the Covid 19 pandemic which meant all works had to adhere to strict social distancing restrictions.
