Specialist Mechanical Works to MRI Suite, Derby
ICE have undertaken the Mechanical works to an MRI Suite in Derby.
The works consisted of the design, supply and installation of new 200mm diameter helium quench pipe. As the MRI scanner is cooled with liquid helium, this turns to gas and expands rapidly above -260°. The installed quench pipe needed to ensure that in the unlikely event of the helium turning to gas, it would be safely dispersed away from the building.
To provide conditioned fresh air to the MRI Examination Room ICE installed a HTM03 air handling unit manufactured by FlaktWoods, with rotary heat exchanger and humidifier. Cooling to the AHU was provided by a Mitsubishi Electric DX condensing unit. Supply and extract ducts were installed to deliver temperature and humidity controlled air to and from the specified areas.
To the Equipment Room we installed a wall mounted split air conditioning system, manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric.
To provide cooling to the scanner, several Airdale Ultimo air cooled water chillers were installed in series, along with associated insulated chilled water pipework.
To provide cooling to the Control Room, a four pipe Dunham Bush fan coil unit was installed, with cooling from the above chilled water circuit and heating via the local LTHW circuit.
Integration with BMS system via user panel was also parts of the scope of works under ICE.
The above project was completed in early 2018.
