R22 Replacement, VRF Air Con System, Runcorn, Cheshire

Due to the ban on R22 refrigerant coming into force at the end of 2014, our client a international hydraulics company went to tender for the replacement of the air conditioning equipment serving their Preston Brook site in Cheshire.

Several companies submitted tenders for the R22 replacement work, with ICE’s proposal being favoured based on efficiency and cost.

The work comprised of removing the existing R22 systems and replacing with a new VRF heat recovery air conditioning system, manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

A two part, air cooled condensing unit was installed on a concrete slab. This was connected to a mixture of  cassette, ducted, and wall mounted indoor fan coil units, each with its own branch controller box to allow simultaneous heating or cooling.

The VRF system is controlled by a full colour, touch screen central controller, which provides energy saving functions in addition to allowing each indoor unit to be controlled, interrogated and scheduled from a single interface point.
